I WAS AN ARTIST BEFORE I WAS A DESIGNER. I entered college as a fine artist that specialized in portraits and figure drawing, hoping to turn my passion into a career. I soon discovered design after I was exposed to it in a 101 course, and fell in love with it. The precision, the specificity, the analysis required to carry out an excellent design. It felt to me like a modification of fine arts to tailor it exactly to fit my analytical, mathematical mindset towards art that I was not able to exercise in my more traditional art classes. Soon I developed a passion for design, and used my keen ability to “draw what I see”, and replicate still lifes with accuracy, to learn very quickly in my design courses by looking at other design compositions. I will always use my background in drawing and painting to influence my design.
